Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
OSCE Exam – NMC Test of Competence
The OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) tests your clinical and communication skills. You must pass both the CBT and OSCE to complete your NMC registration. They can be taken in any order.
OSCE Format
6 stations total:
4 scenario-based APIE: Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation
2 clinical skills stations
Preparation
Use the candidate booklet, mock OSCE scenarios, ToC Test Blueprints, and The Code (NMC professional standards).
Resources are available on your chosen test centre’s website.
On Exam Day
Bring the passport used in your NMC application.
Your photo will be taken for ID.
Full details in the candidate information booklet.
Results & Resits
Results emailed within 5 working days.
If you pass, you’ll get instructions on next steps.
If you fail, you’ll receive feedback. You can resit only the failed stations (if a partial fail).
Max 3 attempts, with 10 days minimum between each.
After 3 failed attempts, you must wait 6 months to reapply.
Appeals
You may appeal if there was an issue with the exam process. See your test centre’s booklet for details.
